Yellow Grove Farms began its journey with flowers for export but soon recognized the need for staple foods and food security. To address this need, we now farm an additional 30 acres of Maize for local consumption and milling.
Maize is an important cereal crop and one that is widely consumed across sub-Saharan Africa. It is a staple food for a majority of the population and an important source of calories.
But while maize can be used to produce a large variety of food products, it is also an important livestock feed and the main ingredient of our commercial silage.
In sub-Saharan Africa maize is mostly grown by small-scale farmers, generally for subsistence as part of mixed agricultural systems. Our entry into large-scale maize production is designed to bolster local supply and support food security.
